If your laptop is filled with scratches, discolorations, or cracks that you don't want to look at but you don't want to be the guy that puts stickers all over his laptop consider using a roll of inexpensive contact paper to give it a new look.
Design weblog Fine & Feathered's author recently did this with woodgrain shelf paper. Her laptop still functioned fine for blogging and web surfing yet was covered with scratches. You can get rolls of contact paper in solid colors, woodgrains, paisley prints, fake marble, etc. for between five and ten dollars. Usually the rolls are 18" x 9' so you'll have enough to do several laptops or coordinate your e-reader or tablet to match.
All you need to do is take the battery out of your laptop, remove any oils or prior sticker adhesive by rubbing down with alcohol, and then measuring and cutting the contact paper and applying to your laptop. If your laptop has a logo on the back that you want to remain visible you'll just need to cut out the logo on the contact paper using a hobby knife so the original logo will remain visible. You may also want to consider using a piece of contact paper on the palmrest on the inside of your laptop as well.
