List More, Sell More

List More, Sell More:
As a shopper, I like to see a manageable variety of items to choose from when I shop. As a seller, I have to remember this when I list. I hear sellers lamenting that they don’t see much traffic in their shops or that they aren’t making any sales. When I look at their shops, I often find that there aren’t many items to choose from. Although listing more won’t guarantee sales, it will increase your chances of making a sale. Basic sellers can list a maximum of fifty items for the ‘cost’ of your time. Premium sellers can list an unlimited number of items that never expire for the cost of a Premium subscription. Currently the cost of a new Premium subscription is $9.95 monthly or $79 per year.
The most common explanation that I’ve encountered for minimal listings is that the seller plans to list more when they make some sales. Unfortunately, this is an example of the proverbial dog chasing his tale scenario. To break this circular pattern that is going nowhere, I urge you to list more now. With more listings, your items will show up in searches more often which will increase the chances of someone clicking into your shop to take a closer look. From my own experience as a shopper, if the item that attracted my attention proves to be even more appealing when I visit the listing page, I’m very likely to take a look around the shop to see what else I might consider purchasing. If I only find a handful of items, I usually won’t linger. It’s also very unlikely that I’ll make a purchase from a sparsely stocked shop. It makes me wonder how attentive the seller is to her shop and how serious she is about selling.
While I’m encouraging you to list more, be careful that you don’t sacrifice quality for quantity. List your best items, presented thoughtfully with well written titles, descriptions and tags and top notch photographs.
