The folks at CHOW have a lineup of recipes that are all inspired by commercially available energy and healthy snack bars designed for different needs, and most of them require only a few minutes in the oven to make before they can be cut up, tossed in airtight bags, and stashed in the freezer, fridge, or your backpack for a healthy on-the-go snack.
Even the most difficult of the bars in CHOW's lineup only takes an hour to make, and for your time and effort you get close to a dozen bars. You won't save much money—you'll have to buy all of the ingredients yourself, which will probably cost more than a box of bars, but you will get control over what goes in them, how many you make, and the knowledge that you don't need to pay someone else for what you can do for yourself. Ever make your own energy bars? Have another favorite healthy between-meal snack to share? Let's hear it in the comments below.
